Councils with 2026 Elections (104+2)

Note, the new East Surrey and West Surrey UAs (not listed below as yet) will elect shadow authorities 7th May 2026, taking over some powers from the old county and district councils immediately, and all authority from 1st April 2027. West Sussex will have 72 councillors and East Sussex 90.

Additionally, 63 councils due to be abolished in 2028 were invited to request cancellation of their 2026 elections, in anticipation of 2027 shadow authority elections, 29 of which did so and have been cancelled (see this News article).

If trying to work out how many seats are up this year, don't forget to half or third the numbers for councils electing by halves or thirds, and to add 4 seats due to boundary changes.

Finally, in an annoucement 30th Jan, elections to the 10 seats up in Pendle in 2026 have also been cancelled.
