Councils with 2026 Elections (Provisional)

Note, the new East Surrey and West Surrey UAs (not listed below as yet) will elect shadow authorities 7th May 2026, taking over some powers from the old county and district councils immediately, and all authority from 1st April 2027. West Sussex will have 72 councillors and East Sussex 90.

Additionally, 63 councils due to be abolished in 2028 have been invited to request cancellation of their 2026 elections, in anticipation of 2027 shadow authority elections. So, this list will likely change.

If trying to work out how many seats are up this year, don't forget to half or third the numbers for councils electing by halves or thirds, and to add 4 seats due to boundary changes.
